Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 454Chapter: Someone who does not know Arabic and supplicates in Persian during the prayer

Translation · EN

1092 - Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Warith ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Husayn al-Mu'allim narrated to us, from Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) depart from the prayer to his right and to his left."

Chapter: Regarding one who does not know Arabic, and invokes in the prayer in Persian

• I said to Ahmad: We have people who do not know the Tashahhud. He said: "They should be taught." I said: What if they are unable to learn? He said: "Whatever [they can]," and he granted them a concession to invoke with whatever they are able.

• I said to Ahmad: What if he invokes before the Taslim in Persian? He said: "No," and he was strict regarding that, and said: "It is evil speech," meaning: Persian.

• And I asked Ishaq, I said: An illiterate man invoked in the obligatory prayer in Persian, and said: "O Lord, [Persian phrase]?" He said: "His prayer is invalid," and he did not grant a concession for invoking in Persian during the prayer.
