Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 464

Translation · EN

• Ahmad was asked again about a woman who prays on top of a house, with a road between her and the Imam? He said: "I hope there is nothing wrong with it," and he mentioned that Anas ibn Malik used to do that.

I said: "What if he is alone?" He remained silent, then I asked him at the time of Maghrib when I was alone, and I said: "What if he is alone?" He said: "No. If he is alone, it is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that whoever prays behind the row alone must repeat the prayer, and this is more severe," meaning: on top of the house.

• I asked Ishaq ibn Ibrahim, and I said: "A man prays in a house, and there is a road between him and the mosque where people walk?" He said: "It does not please me," and he did not permit it. I said: "Is his prayer valid?" He said: "If it were valid, I would not say: 'It does not please me.'" Then he said: "Unless it is a road where people stand and form rows for prayer." I said: "But when we prayed, no one passed through it." So he inclined toward the view that the prayer is valid.

• I also asked Ishaq, saying: "He prays while there is a wall between him and the Imam, and he does not see the Imam?" He said: "If he hears his recitation and follows him, it is valid."

1109 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Yunus ibn 'Ubayd, from 'Abd Rabbih, who said: "I saw Anas ibn Malik praying on Friday in a room in Basra following the Imam."
