Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 46Chapter: Urine flowing into a well

Translation · EN

• Ahmad was asked about Bi'r Buda'a (the well of Buda'a), and he said: "It is in Medina. I was with Ibn Abi Fudayk, and he passed by the door of a house and said: 'Bi'r Buda'a is in this house.'" He added: "It is near Saqifat Bani Sa'ida."

115 - Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr narrated to us, he said: Fudayl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, water is being drawn for you from Bi'r Buda'a, yet dog meat and the menstrual rags of women are cast into it?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, water is not made impure by anything."

Chapter: Urine Flowing into a Well

• Ahmad was asked about a well into which urine is poured, and he said: "It must be drawn [i.e., the water extracted]; because the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade urinating in standing water." I said: "What if it [the urine] was a little?" He said: "I do not know; the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade urinating in standing water." It was said to Ahmad: "We performed ablution from it for days and prayed [those prayers]." He said: "The prayers must be repeated." It was said: "We do not know how many days we prayed [using that water]." He said: "Use your best judgment [taharraw]." It was said: "What about the garments?" He said: "The garments must be washed."

• And I asked Ishaq, saying: "What if a child urinated into a well containing a large amount of standing water?" He said: "There is no harm in it, even if a man were to urinate in it himself." I said: "What about the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him): 'Do not urinate in standing water'?" He said: "Standing water [al-rakid] is that which is less than two qullat."
