Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 470Chapter: Also regarding the people of innovation

Translation · EN

1129 - Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [he said: Abu al-'Abbas narrated to me], and said: I heard Abu 'Ubayd say: "I do not care if I pray behind a Jahmi or a Rafidi, or if I pray behind a Jew or a Christian." He said: And I heard Abu 'Ubayd say: "One should not pray behind someone who does not prioritize Abu Bakr over all of creation after the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace."

Chapter: Regarding the People of Innovation—Also

• I said to Ahmad: "Do you dislike praying behind all of the people of innovation?" He said: "They are not all the same."

• The school (madhhab) of Abu 'Abd Allah is that one should not pray behind the people of innovation.

1130 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Hassan, from al-Hasan, that he was asked about the innovator: "[Should one pray] behind him?" He said: "Pray behind him, and his innovation is upon him, humiliated and tarnished."

1131 - Abu Umayyah Muhammad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Kathir ibn Hisham narrated to us, from Ja'far ibn Burqan, he said: I asked Maymun ibn Mihran, and said: "What is your view on praying behind a man who is mentioned to be one of the Khawarij?" He said: "You are not praying for him; you are only praying for God. We used to pray behind 526 al-Hajjaj, and he was a Haruri Azraqi." I looked at him, and he said: "Do you know what a Haruri Azraqi is? He is the one who, if you disagreed with his opinion, he would label you a disbeliever and deem your blood lawful; and al-Hajjaj was like that."

Notes

(1) Thus it is in the original, and the narration of Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah from Abu 'Ubayd directly has just recently passed, so perhaps the correct [reading] is to omit: "he said: Abu al-'Abbas narrated to me." (2) The word "if" (idha) was omitted here.
