1151 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Al-Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, saying: I heard Ibn 'Awn narrating from Ibn Sirin that he saw a mosque built over an archway beneath which was filth, so he said—without me asking him—: "Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dislike praying in such a place."

Chapter: Praying towards a lamp, a brazier, and an oven

I said to Ishaq: A man prays while in front of him is a lamp or a brazier with fire in it? He said: "There is no harm in the lamp, but I dislike the brazier."

1152 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Bakr, from Ibn Sirin, that he disliked praying towards an oven and said: "It is a house of fire."

1153 - Ahmad ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: 'Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah al-Qannad narrated to us, saying: Asbat informed us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: While the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was praying on a mat, with a lamp in front of him, a mouse came, took the wick, and threw it onto the mat, burning an area the size of a dirham from it. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Indeed, the little wicked one (the mouse) sets the people of the house on fire."
