1156 - 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn al-Dahhak narrated to us, saying: Isma'il narrated to us, from Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq al-Hamdani, from his father, from Abu al-Ahwas, who said: "When 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud—may Allah be pleased with him—would offer the salutation, he would stand up or move from his place, not far," and Abu Ishaq gestured with his palms towards the right side.
1157 - Muhammad ibn Adam narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Malih al-Raqqi narrated to us, from Habib, that Ibn 'Umar used to dislike performing a voluntary prayer in the place where he had performed the obligatory prayer, until he moved forward, moved backward, or spoke.
Chapter: How should one place the staff (sutrah) if one prays facing it?
• I said to Ahmad: When the Imam advances ahead of the people, does he order them to straighten the row? He said: "Yes, he orders them to do that."
