Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 497Chapter: One Who Has Performed the Obligatory Prayer and Then Enters the Mosque While the Prayer is Being Established

Translation · EN

Chapter: The one who has prayed the obligatory prayer, then enters the mosque and the prayer is being established

• I asked Ahmad: A man prayed the 'Asr, then entered a mosque, and the prayer was being established; should he pray with them? He said: "There is no harm [in doing so]."

• And I heard Ishaq saying: "If you have prayed the obligatory prayer, then entered a mosque, and the prayer is being established; then pray the entire prayer with them, except for the Maghrib. For if it were the Maghrib, and you prayed with them, then when the Imam performs the taslim, stand up and add one rak'ah to make it four. Your prayer which you prayed alone is the obligatory one, and your prayer with them is voluntary."

1196 - Muhammad ibn Bashir narrated to us, saying: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn Tahman narrated to us, from Jabir, from al-Sha'bi, from Silah ibn Zufar al-'Absi, from Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), that he prayed the Zhuhr in a congregation, then repeated it in a congregation, and he prayed the Maghrib in a congregation, then repeated it in a congregation, and then added a rak'ah to it.

1197 - Al-Musayyab ibn Wadih narrated to us, saying: I asked Abu Ishaq al-Fazari about the prayer; is it repeated in a congregation if I have prayed alone? He said: Sufyan used to say: "The prayer is repeated in a congregation if he has prayed alone."

He said: It was said to Abu Ishaq: "And the Subh [dawn prayer]?" He said: "Yes, and the Subh." I said to him: "If I were on a journey, and I went to perform wudu for the Subh prayer, so I performed wudu and prayed, then I arrived at my companions and they had not yet prayed; should I repeat the prayer with them?" He said: "Do not repeat [it]."

Notes

(1) This is as it appears in the original manuscript, and written above it is "kadha" (thus), but the correct grammatical form is "tu'id" (you do not repeat). Perhaps he also found the lack of agreement between the answer and the previous opinion problematic, and it is possible that there is an elision in the statement.

Notes
