Chapter: Prostration Upon the Folds of the Turban

• I asked Ahmad about prostrating upon the folds of the turban (kawr al-'imamah)? He disliked it and said: "No."

1240 - Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, he said: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, he said: Ibrahim ibn 'Uthman narrated to me, from Abu Husayn, from Abu al-Duha, that he saw Masruq ibn al-Ajda', Shurayh, and 'Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Ansari, all of whom would prostrate upon their turbans and burnuses (hooded cloaks).

1241 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, he said: 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, he said: 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar narrated to us, from Nafi', that Ibn 'Umar used to uncover his forehead from the folds of the turban when he prostrated and would extend his hands, saying: "The hands prostrate along with the face."

Chapter: A Man Praying While Having Tied His Waist with a String

• It was said to Ahmad: "A man ties his waist with a string and prays?" He said: "Over a qaba' (outer garment/tunic), there is no harm in it," but he disliked it over a qamis (shirt), and held the view that it is from the attire of the Jews. I mentioned to him the matter of travel, and that we tie our waists; so he granted a slight concession regarding it. As for a belt (mantaqah), a turban, and the like, he did not dislike them; he only disliked the string, saying: "It is more unsightly."
