1245 - 'Ali ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, he said: Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us, he said: "I saw Muhammad ibn Sirin praying while sitting cross-legged, with a Mus'haf (copy of the Quran) in front of him. If he doubted something, he would lift it and look at it, and when he wanted to bow, he would kneel upon his knees and place his palms upon his knees."

1246 - Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, he said: Marwan narrated to us, he said: Sulayman ibn Musa narrated to us, he said: Mis'ar ibn Kidam narrated to us, from Hammad, from Mujahid, from Sa'id, who said: "The standing position of one who prays while sitting is that he sits cross-legged, and when he wants to bow, he folds his legs."

• I heard Ishaq ibn Ibrahim say: "If a man performs supererogatory (nawafil) prayers while sitting, they used to recommend that he begins by praying two rak'ahs while standing, then sits and prays while sitting."

He said: "And if he prays while sitting, he sits cross-legged, recites while cross-legged, then bows while cross-legged; and when he wants to prostrate, he folds his legs, prostrates, then sits."

1247 - Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, he said: Marwan narrated to us, he said: I asked Malik ibn Anas: "How should one who prays while sitting sit?" He said: "He should sit cross-legged." I said: "So when he wants to bow, does he fold his legs? Or does he place his hands upon his knees while cross-legged?" He said: "Rather, he places his hands upon his knees while cross-legged."

1248 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: Jarir ibn 'Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, from Mughirah, from Simak ibn Salamah, he said: "I saw Ibn 'Umar and Ibn 'Abbas praying cross-legged."

1249 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Rahhal al-Ta'i narrated to us, he said: "I saw Anas ibn Malik praying while sitting cross-legged."
