1256 - Ahmad ibn Yunus narrated to us, he said: Za'idah narrated to us, [he said:] Musa ibn Abi 'Aishah narrated to us, from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah, who said: I entered upon 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Will you not tell me about the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? She said: "Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) became very ill, so he sent [word] to Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." She said: "The messenger came to him and said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commands you to lead the people in prayer.'" She said: "So Abu Bakr led them in prayer during those days. Then, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) felt a sense of relief, so he went out [supported] between two men for the Dhuhr prayer, while Abu Bakr was leading the people in prayer." She said: "When Abu Bakr saw him, he went to step back, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gestured to him not to step back, and said to the two men: 'Seat me beside him,' so they seated him beside Abu Bakr." She said: "Abu Bakr then began to pray while standing, following the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the people [were praying] following the prayer of Abu Bakr, while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting."
1257 - 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr al-Humaydi narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Zuhri say: I heard Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fell from a horse, and his right side was bruised. We visited him to inquire about his health, and the time for prayer arrived, so he led us in prayer sitting, and we prayed behind him sitting. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "The Imam has only been appointed to be followed. So when he says the takbir, say the takbir; when he bows, bow; when he says, 'Allah hears those who praise Him,' say, 'Our Lord, and to You is all praise'; when he prostrates, prostrate; and when he prays sitting, then all of you pray sitting."
