1285 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Jarir narrated to us, from Mughirah, from al-Harith al-'Ikli, who said: "An umm al-walad (a bondswoman who has borne her master's child) may pray without a face veil (qina'), just as a bondswoman prays."
1286 - Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, saying: al-Walid narrated to us, saying: Sa'id ibn Bashir informed me, from Ibn Sirin, from Safiyyah bint al-Harith, that 'A'ishah - may Allah be pleased with her - stayed with them in Basra, and she had daughters with her who wanted to pray without a head-covering. 'A'ishah said: "When a young girl reaches menstruation, her prayer is not accepted without a head-covering."
1287 - al-Walid said: Ibn Jurayj informed me, from Layla bint Sa'd, that she informed him that she saw 'A'ishah - may Allah be pleased with her - praying the Maghrib prayer in a lower garment (izar), a chemise (dir'), and a head-covering (khimar).
1288 - al-Walid said: Abu 'Amr and Malik informed me that there is no harm in a woman praying in a chemise and a head-covering, and that suffices her.
Chapter: When Does a Young Girl Reach Maturity?
I heard Ishaq say: "When a young girl reaches menstruation—and that is at fifteen years of age—or if her pubic area has sprouted black hair, even if she has not menstruated, her ruling is the ruling of women regarding covering; there is no doubt in that, due to what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, established regarding that. As for the young girl who has not menstruated and has not yet reached that time, if she prays in a lower garment while her hair is visible, her prayer is valid, just as 'A'ishah - may Allah be pleased with her - said to the woman who went out in a lower garment while she was a young girl: 'She has not menstruated, nor has any part of menstruation appeared.'"
