151 - Amr ibn Uthman narrated to us, he said: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, he said: Abu Amr al-Awza'i said—regarding a drop of wine that fell into oil or a large quantity of water—: "It does not render it unlawful."
And Abu Amr said—regarding a drop of wine that fell into a large quantity of oil, or vinegar—: "It does not render it unlawful, and if it fell into dough, it does not render it unlawful; the fire has consumed it."
152 - Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, he said: Umar narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Awza'i say—regarding wine that was thrown into a cooking pot—: he said: "They should pour out the broth, and the meat should be washed. This is the same for a chick if it falls into the pot and dies."
Chapter: Saliva Falling into a Vessel
• Ahmad was asked about a man who rinses his mouth, puts his hand in his mouth, then puts them into a vessel? He said: "There is no harm in it." He said: "Saliva is clean." And he said—regarding saliva falling into a vessel—: "There is no harm in it, and phlegm (nukha'ah) is even less problematic."
153 - Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, he said: Umar ibn Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, he said: al-Awza'i was asked about saliva falling into a man's wudu water, or his washing water, or mucus? He said: "If it is distinct, he should cast it away, and if it mixes with the water, there is no harm in it; for it is not impure."
154 - He said: And al-Awza'i was asked about a man who used a siwak (tooth stick) until his mouth bled, then he placed his siwak into his wudu water? He said: "If it alters any of the water, he should pour it out, otherwise not." He disliked for a man to place his siwak into his wudu water.
