Chapter: Wudu with Salt Water

• I said to Ishaq: "We have a salt cellar that contains salt, and sometimes people go to transfer the salt, while the prayer time arrives, and they do not have water; yet in the salt cellar there is stagnant salt water. Is it permissible to perform wudu with it, or should one perform tayammum?" He said: "This is not water; one should perform tayammum and not perform wudu with it."

155 - Abu Ma'n al-Raqashi narrated to us, he said: Abu Qutaybah narrated to us, he said: I asked Malik ibn Anas about two wells that are close to each other, one for wudu and one for a latrine? He said: "There is no harm in performing wudu from it, provided that the color, taste, or smell does not change."

Chapter: Wudu with Heated Water

• Ishaq was asked about wudu with heated water? He said: "Mujahid used to dislike wudu with heated water," and he mentioned from Yahya ibn Ya'mur that he was brought heated water to perform wudu with, so he mixed it [with cold water], then performed wudu with it. It was as if Abu Ya'qub preferred the mixing.

156 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: [Abd al-Aziz] ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, that Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—used to perform wudu and ghusl with hot water.

157 - Yahya ibn Uthman narrated to us, he said: Ibn Himyar narrated to us, from Wahb, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—she said: I heated water for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in the sun. He said: "Do not do it again, O Humayra'; for it causes vitiligo."
