170 - Ayyub ibn Muhammad al-Raqqi narrated to us, he said: 'Umar ibn Ayyub narrated to us, he said: Musmi' ibn 'Arabi informed us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, who said: "If the stone with which one has performed istinja' is touched by water or rain, there is no harm in performing istinja' with it."
Chapter: Regarding the one who forgets to perform istinja'
• Ahmad was asked about a man who performed wudu', forgot to perform istinja', and prayed? He said: "He must repeat the prayer."
• And I heard Ahmad—on another occasion, regarding a man who wipes with stones and does not perform istinja' with water—say: "His prayer is sufficient."
• And I heard Ishaq being asked about a man who neglected istinja' with water and prayed? He said: "It is permissible if he wiped with stones."
171 - 'Abbas narrated to us, he said: 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, he said: Al-Awza'i was asked about a man who entered the privy and did not perform istinja', then remembered after he had prayed? He said: "He should take a rag and wipe with it; if anything comes out on it, he must perform wudu' and repeat the prayer, and if nothing comes out on it, his prayer stands."
Chapter: Saying the Basmala (Tasmiya) during Wudu'
• Ahmad was asked about a man who performs wudu' and forgets the Tasmiya? He said: "He should be mindful of it, but if he forgets, I hope his wudu' is sufficient for him."
