Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 67Chapter: One who forgets to rinse the mouth or inhale water into the nose

Translation · EN

• And Ishaq said: "There is no harm in rinsing the mouth and inhaling water from a single handful of water."

175 - 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Salam narrated to us, he said: Ishaq ibn 'Isa narrated to us, he said: al-Qasim ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar narrated to me, from 'Isa ibn Hafs, from his father, that he heard Abu Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—hear a man say: "I have not used the siwak (toothstick) for three days." So Abu Hurayrah said to him: "If you were to pass your finger over your teeth during your wudu', it would be equivalent to the siwak."

176 - Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Mu'tamir informed us, from al-Qasim ibn Mutayyib, who said: "If a man does not find a siwak, he should use his finger in his mouth."

• I asked Ahmad, I said: "Should one perform istinthar (expelling water from the nose) with the right hand or the left hand?" He said: "With the left."

Chapter: He Who Forgets Rinsing the Mouth and Inhaling Water

• I asked Ahmad, I said: "A man forgot to rinse his mouth and inhale water, then prayed?" He said: "He must repeat the prayer." I said: "And does he repeat the wudu'?" He said: "No, but he should rinse his mouth, inhale water, and repeat [the prayer]."

• And I heard Ahmad—another time—say regarding a man who forgets the rinsing of the mouth and inhaling of water; he said: "He repeats the prayer, and it is sufficient for him to rinse his mouth and inhale water without repeating the wudu', and it is the same for [the requirement of] janabah (major ritual impurity)."
