• And Ishaq was asked about combing the beard, and he said: "It is a Sunnah."
192 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Karim, from Hassan ibn Bilal al-Muzani, he said: I saw 'Ammar ibn Yasir perform wudu' (ablution) and he combed his beard. It was mentioned to him regarding that, and he said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, do it."
193 - Abu 'Ubaydah Shadh ibn Fayyad narrated to us, he said: Hashim ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ziyad, from Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: "When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, performed wudu', he would comb his beard with his fingers and say: 'My Lord has commanded me to do this.'"
194 - Shadh ibn Fayyad narrated to us, he said: 'Umar ibn Abi Wahb narrated to us, from Musa al-Najdi, from Talhah ibn 'Ubaydallah al-Khuza'i, from 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, she said: "When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, performed wudu', he would comb his beard."
Chapter: If Water Does Not Reach the Roots of the Hair of His Moustache
• I said to Ahmad: "A man has a lot of scented oil (ghaliyah) on his moustache, and when he performs wudu', the water does not reach the roots of the hair?" He said: "There is no hadith regarding this." I said: "If he runs water over it, do you hope that it would suffice him?" He was lenient regarding it.
