208 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, he said: Suwayd ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz narrated to us, from al-Awza'i, who said: I asked al-Zuhri about performing wudu' from what fire has changed? He said: "Perform wudu'." I said: "From whom?" He said: "From Zayd ibn Thabit, Ibn 'Umar, Abu Hurayrah, Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, Anas ibn Malik, 'A'ishah, and Umm Salamah." I said: "Then Abu Bakr?" He said: "He did not perform wudu'." I said: "'Umar?" He said: "He did not perform wudu'." I said: "'Uthman?" He said: "He did not perform wudu'." I said: "Ibn Mas'ud?" He said: "He did not perform wudu'." I said: "Bring me men like my men!" He said: "Then I will not come to you."

Chapter: Wudu' with nabidh (date-infused water)

• Ahmad was asked about performing wudu' with nabidh? He disliked it. It was said: "What about the hadith of Abu Fazara, from Abu Zayd?" He did not deem it authentic. It was said: "Is it narrated from 'Ali?" He did not deem it authentic.

209 - Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, he said: Sharik narrated to us, from Abu Fazara, from Abu Zayd, from 'Abdullah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, performed wudu' on the night of the Jinn with nabidh, and he said: "A sweet date, and pure water."
