238 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, saying: Hisham ibn 'Urwah narrated to us, from his father, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed ghusl for janabah, he would begin by washing his hands. Then he would pour with his right hand onto his left and wash his private parts. Then he would perform wudu' as he does for prayer. Then he would take water and insert his fingers into the roots of his hair until he perceived that he had thoroughly cleaned it; he would scoop three handfuls of water over his head, then pour it over his entire body, then wash his feet."
Chapter: The Junub (person in a state of major ritual impurity) performs wudu' if he sleeps
• Ahmad ibn Hanbal was asked: May a junub sleep? He said: "It does not please me, except that he performs wudu'." It was said to him: It is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he slept while he was a junub. He seemed to disapprove of this and said: "It has been reported."
• He was asked about a man who sleeps while he is a junub. He said: "He should not sleep until he performs wudu'."
• He was asked about a man who has intercourse, then wants to return to it. He said: "He should perform wudu'," and I think he said: "If he is able to." I said: What if he wants to eat or drink? He said: "Likewise."
(1) Thus it is in the original, and the correct version is: "until when he perceived" (hatta idha ra'a).
