109 - Ḥamza b. al-ʿAbbās narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUthmān narrated to us: Ibn al-Mubārak informed us: Ṣafwān b. ʿAmr informed us from Sulaym b. ʿĀmir, who said: The Companions of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, used to say: "Indeed, God, Mighty and Majestic, benefits us through the Bedouins and their questions." He said: A Bedouin came one day and said: "O Messenger of God, God, Mighty and Majestic, has mentioned a harmful tree in Paradise, and I did not think there was a tree that would harm its companion." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: "And what is it?" He said: "The lote tree, for it has harmful thorns." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: "Does God, Mighty and Majestic, not say: {Amid thornless lote trees}? God, Mighty and Majestic, has removed its thorns and placed a fruit in the place of every thorn. Indeed, it produces fruit that splits open into seventy-two varieties of food, no variety of which resembles another."
