145 - Suwayd b. Saʿīd narrated to us: ʿAbd Rabbih b. Bāriq al-Ḥanafī narrated to us that Simāk heard his father narrating that he met ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās in Medina after he had lost his sight. He said: "O Ibn ʿAbbās, what is the land of Paradise?" He said: "White marble of silver, as if it were a mirror." I said: "What is its light?" He said: "Have you not seen the hour that is before the rising of the sun? That is its light, except that there is no sun in it, nor freezing cold." He said: I said: "Then what are its rivers? Are they in a trench?" He said: "No, rather they flow upon the surface of the land of Paradise, contained, not overflowing here or there. God, Mighty and Majestic, said to them: 'Be,' and they were." I said: "Then what are its garments?" He said: "In it is a tree that has fruit like pomegranates. When the friend (walī) of God, Mighty and Majestic, desires a garment from it, it descends to him from its branch and splits open for him into seventy garments, colors upon colors, then it closes and returns as it was."
