"Faqulna idribuhu" (So We said, "Strike him [the dead man] with part of it"). Yahya said: I heard some of them say: His grave was struck with part of it—Qatada said: meaning: with its thigh—so they did, and he stood up and informed [them] of his killer, then he died.
Ibn Abbas said: They sought it and found it with a man who was righteous to his parents, so its price reached the amount of its hide filled with dinars.
Yahya said: And it was mentioned to us that his next of kin who was seeking his blood was [the very one] who killed him; thus, a killer shall not inherit from the one he killed.
﴿فَقُلْنَا اضْرِبُوهُ﴾ قَالَ يَحْيَى: سَمِعْتُ بَعضهم يَقُولُ: رُمِيَ قَبره بِبَعْضِهَا - قَالَ قَتَادَة: يَعْنِي: بفخذها - فَفَعَلُوا، فَقَامَ فَأخْبر بقاتله، ثمَّ مَاتَ.
قَالَ ابْن عَبَّاس: طلبوها، فوجدوها عِنْد رَجُل بر بِوَالِديهِ، فَبلغ ثمنهَا مِلْءَ مَسْكِها دَنَانِير.
قَالَ يَحْيَى: وَذكر لَنَا أَن وليه الَّذِي كَانَ يطْلب دَمه هُوَ [الَّذِي] قَتله؛ فَلم يُورث بعده قَاتل. [آيَة]
