among them used to hear the word of God." Al-Hasan said: Meaning, the Book of God, the Torah, "then they would distort it after they had understood it." They distorted what was in the Torah concerning the description of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and his religion, ["while they know it." (Verses 76-78)]
مِنْهُم يسمعُونَ كَلَام الله﴾ قَالَ الحَسَن: يَعْنِي: كتاب اللَّه التَّوْرَاة ﴿ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُونَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا عقلوه﴾ حرفوا مَا فِي التَّوْرَاة من صفة مُحَمَّد ﷺ وَدينه [﴿وهم يعلمُونَ﴾]. [آيَة ٧٦ - ٧٨]
