the one who, when he comes, comes with war and hardship, while our companion’s companion is Michael, who, when he comes, comes with abundance and peace. Umar said: "Do you recognize Gabriel yet deny Muhammad?" He then parted from them and headed toward the Prophet, peace be upon him, to tell him what happened; he found that this verse had been revealed to him.
In the narration of al-Kalbi: The Jews said, "Gabriel is an enemy to us; if Muhammad claimed that it is Michael who comes to him, we would believe him, for Gabriel is an enemy to Michael." Umar replied, "I bear witness that whoever is an enemy to Gabriel is indeed an enemy to Michael."
إِذا جَاءَ جَاءَ بِالْحَرْبِ والسَّنَةِ، وَكَانَ صَاحب صاحبنا مِيكَائِيل، وَكَانَ إِذا جَاءَ جَاءَ بالْخِصْب وبالسِّلْم. فَقَالَ عُمَر: أتعرفون جِبْرِيل، وتنكرون مُحَمَّدًا؟ وفارقهم عِنْد ذَلِكَ وَتوجه نَحْو النَّبِي عليه السلام ليحدثه حَدِيثه؛ فَوَجَدَهُ قد نزلت عَلَيْهِ هَذِه الْآيَة.
وَفِي رِوَايَة الْكَلْبِيّ: أَن الْيَهُود قَالَتْ: إِن جِبْرِيل عَدو لَنَا، فَلَو أَن مُحَمَّدًا يزْعم أَن مِيكَائِيل الَّذِي يَأْتِيهِ صدقناه، وَإِن جِبْرِيل عَدو لميكائيل؛ فَقَالَ عُمَر: إِنِّي أشهد أَن من كَانَ عدوا لجبريل، فَإِنَّهُ عَدو لميكائيل.
