His saying, the Exalted, 'Am turiduna an tas'alu rasulakum kama su'ila Musa min qabl' (Or do you intend to ask your Messenger as Musa was asked before?). Qatada said: That which they asked Musa was that they said: 'Arinallaha jahratan' (Show us Allah outright). 'Wa man yatabaddalil-kufra bil-imani faqad dalla sawa'as-sabil' (And whoever exchanges faith for disbelief has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way) [meaning: the intent of the path]. [Verse 109-110]
قَوْله تَعَالَى: ﴿أَمْ تُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَسْأَلُوا رَسُولَكُمْ كَمَا سُئِلَ مُوسَى من قبل﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: كَانَ الَّذِي سَأَلُوا مُوسَى أَن قَالُوا: ﴿أَرِنَا الله جهرة﴾ ﴿وَمَنْ يَتَبَدَّلِ الْكُفْرَ بِالإِيمَانِ فَقَدْ ضل سَوَاء السَّبِيل﴾ [أَي: قصد] الطَّرِيق. [آيَة ١٠٩ - ١١٠]
