"O mankind, eat from whatever is on the earth [that is] lawful and good."
Muhammad said: Meaning: do not eat, and do not spend from that which is forbidden to you. "And do not follow the footsteps of Satan," meaning: that which he commands you to do.
Muhammad said: 'Khutuwāt' (footsteps) is the plural of 'khutwah', and 'al-khutwah' with the damma is (fol. 23) that which is between
﴿يَا أَيهَا النَّاسُ كُلُوا مِمَّا فِي الأَرْضِ حَلَالا طيبا﴾
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: يَعْنِي: لَا تَأْكُلُوا، وَلا تنفقوا مِمَّا يحرم عَلَيْكُم. ﴿وَلَا تتبعوا خطوَات الشَّيْطَان﴾ أَي: مَا يَأْمُركُمْ بِهِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: خطوَات جمع: خطْوَة، والخطوة بِالضَّمِّ: (ل ٢٣) مَا بَين
