Translation · EN

'And fight them until there is no fitnah,' meaning: polytheism (shirk). 'Then if they cease,' meaning: from their polytheism, 'then there is no aggression,' meaning: then there is no path (to punish), 'except against the wrongdoers,' meaning: the polytheists.

Muhammad said: The root of aggression is injustice. The meaning of aggression here is recompense; [he says]: there is no recompense [for injustice] except against the wrongdoers. [Verse 194-195]

﴿وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّى لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ﴾ أَي: شرك ﴿فَإِن انْتَهوا﴾ عَن شركهم ﴿فَلَا عدوان﴾ أَي: فَلَا سَبِيل ﴿إِلا عَلَى الظَّالِمين﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْركين.

قَالَ مُحَمَّد: أصل الْعدوان: الظُّلم، (ل ٢٦) وَمعنى الْعدوان هَا هُنَا: الْجَزَاء [يَقُولُ]: لَا جَزَاء [ظلم] إِلَّا على الظَّالِمين. [آيَة ١٩٤ - ١٩٥]
