Volume 1 · Page 277198

Translation · EN

"There is no sin upon you that you seek bounty from your Lord" (2:198) — meaning: trade during the Hajj. "So when you depart from Arafat" (2:198). Qatadah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed from Arafat after the sun had set.

Al-Hasan said: Indeed, Gabriel showed Ibrahim, peace be upon him, all the rites (manasik), until when he reached Arafat, he said: 'O Ibrahim, have you recognized (arafta) what you have seen of the rites?' He said: 'Yes.' And that is why it was named Arafah. "Then remember Allah at the Mash'ar al-Haram" (2:198). Qatadah said: It is Muzdalifah.

Yahya: From Ibrahim ibn Muhammad, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir ibn Abdullah: "That when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed the morning prayer (subh), he stood at Jam', then he departed."

Qatadah said: It was only named Jam' because one combines (yujma'u) the Maghrib and Isha prayers therein.
