Translation · EN

"Then depart from the place from where the people depart" (2:199), which is the departure from Arafat. Qatada said: The Quraysh and every nephew and ally of theirs would not stand at Arafat, and they would say: 'We are the people of Allah, so we do not [leave] His sanctuary.'

﴿ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاس﴾ وَهِي الْإِفَاضَة من عَرَفَة. قَالَ قَتَادَة: كَانَت قُرَيْش وكُلُّ ابْن أُخْت لَهُم وحليف لَا يقفون بِعَرَفَة، وَيَقُولُونَ: نَحْنُ أهل اللَّه فَلَا [نخرج] من حرمه
