"Then when you have accomplished your rituals" (2:200). Al-Suddi said: Meaning, when you have finished your rituals. "Remember Allah as you remember your fathers or with greater remembrance" (2:200). Qatada said: The people of the Jahiliyyah, when they finished their rituals, would remember their fathers and the deeds of their fathers. Their orator would use that when he gave a sermon, and their narrator would speak of it when he narrated. So Allah, may He be exalted, commanded them, when they finished their rituals, to remember Him as they remembered their fathers, or with a greater remembrance; meaning: rather, with a greater remembrance. "And among the people is he who says, 'Our Lord, give us in this world,' and he will have no share in the Hereafter" (2:200). Meaning: no portion. They are the polytheists who have no concern except for this world; they do not ask Allah for anything except for it, and that is because they do not acknowledge the Hereafter nor do they believe in it.
﴿فَإِذا قضيتم مَنَاسِككُم﴾ قَالَ السّديّ: يَعْنِي: إِذا فَرَغْتُمْ من مَنَاسِككُم ﴿فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَذِكْرِكُمْ آبَاءَكُم أَو أَشد ذكرا﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: كَانَ أهل الْجَاهِلِيَّة؛ إِذا قضوا مناسكهم، ذكرُوا آبَاءَهُم وَفعل آبَائِهِم؛ بذلك يخْطب خطيبهم إِذا خطب، وَبِه يحدث محدثهم إِذا حدث، فَأَمرهمْ اللَّه ﷿ إِذا قضوا مناسكم أَن يذكروه كذكرهم آبَاءَهُم، أَو أَشد ذكرا؛ يَعْنِي بل أَشد ذِكْرًا. ﴿فَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَقُولُ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَمَا لَهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلاقٍ﴾ أَي: من نصيب؛ وهم الْمُشْركُونَ، لَيْسَ لَهُم همة إِلَّا الدُّنيا، لَا يسْأَلُون اللَّه شَيْئا إِلَّا لَهَا؛ وَذَلِكَ أَنهم لَا يقرونَ بِالآخِرَة وَلَا يُؤمنُونَ بهَا.
