"Do they await"—meaning: what are they awaiting—"except that Allah should come to them" on the Day of Resurrection "in shadows of the clouds, as well as the angels"—meaning: and the angels will come to them—"and the matter is settled"—meaning: death.
﴿هَل ينظرُونَ﴾ أَي: مَا ينظرُونَ ﴿إِلا أَنْ يَأْتِيهم الله﴾ يَوْم الْقِيَامَة ﴿فِي ظُلَلٍ مِنَ الْغَمَام وَالْمَلَائِكَة﴾ أَي: وتأتيهم الْمَلَائِكَة ﴿وَقُضِيَ الأَمْرُ﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمَوْت.
