"And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is harm, so keep away from women during menstruation.'" The interpretation of al-Hasan: The devil introduced into the people of the Jahiliyyah regarding women's menstruation a constriction similar to what he introduced to the Magians; they would not sit with them in a house, nor would they eat with them, nor drink. When Islam came, the Muslims asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about that, so Allah revealed: "Say, 'It is harm'", meaning: filth. "'So keep away from women during menstruation and do not approach them'", meaning: sexual intercourse, "'until they are pure'", meaning: until they see the white discharge. "'And when they have purified themselves'", meaning: have performed the ritual bath, "'then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you.'" Ibn Abbas said: Meaning, from where Allah has commanded you to avoid them. Al-Suddi said: "From where", meaning: in the place where Allah has commanded you; meaning: in the private part. "'Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves'" from sins.
