Volume 1 · Page 318225

Translation · EN

"Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths."

Yahya narrated from Hammam, from Ata, who said: "I entered with Ubayd ibn Umayr upon Aisha, and Ubayd asked her about this verse. She said: 'It is the saying of one of you: No, by Allah, or Yes, by Allah.'"

Al-Hasan and Qatada said: It refers to a mistake that is not intentional; that is, when you swear upon a matter believing it to be as you say, yet it turns out not to be as you swore. "But He will impose blame upon you for what your hearts have earned." Qatada's interpretation: Meaning, that which you have intended.
