Translation · EN

"And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah and strengthening their souls" (p. 39). Al-Hasan said: Meaning, seeking reward (ihtisaban). So their likeness in their spending is "like a garden on high ground," meaning: an elevated place on the earth, "which is hit by a downpour, so it yields its fruit in double," meaning:

﴿وَمَثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمُ ابْتِغَاءَ مَرْضَاتِ اللَّهِ وَتَثْبِيتًا مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ﴾ (ل ٣٩) قَالَ الحَسَن: يَعْنِي: احتسابا فمثلهم فِي نَفَقَتهم ﴿كَمَثَلِ جَنَّةٍ بِرَبْوَةٍ﴾ يَعْنِي: مَكَانا مرتفعا من الأَرْض ﴿أَصَابَهَا وَابِلٌ فَآتَتْ أُكُلَهَا ضِعْفَيْنِ﴾ أَي:
