Translation · EN

"[Not upon you is their guidance] The verse. Qatada's interpretation: He said: It was mentioned to us that a man from the Companions of the Prophet said: [Guidance is not upon us] regarding those who are not of our religion; so Allah revealed: 'Not upon you is their guidance, but Allah guides whom He wills. And whatever you spend of good is for yourselves.'

Yahya said: This charity which is for non-Muslims is a voluntary act (tatawwu'), and they are not given anything from the obligatory (wajib) charity."

﴿لَيْسَ عَلَيْك هدَاهُم﴾ الْآيَة تَفْسِير قَتَادَة: قَالَ: ذكر لَنَا أَن رجلا من أَصْحَاب النَّبِي قَالَ: [لَيْسَ عَلَيْنَا هدى] عَلَى من لَيْسَ من أهل ديننَا؛ فَأنْزل اللَّه: ﴿لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ هُدَاهُمْ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَمَا تُنْفِقُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَلأَنْفُسِكُمْ﴾

قَالَ يَحْيَى: فَهَذِهِ الصَّدَقَة الَّتِي هِيَ عَلَى غير الْمُسلمين هِيَ تطوع، وَلا يُعْطون من الْوَاجِب شَيْئا.
