And to humiliate them. The angels and Gabriel were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He says: There has been for you in these people a lesson and a subject for reflection, as Allah supported them and granted them victory over their enemy. "Indeed, in that is a lesson for those with vision," who are the believers.
Qatadah said: The polytheists were a thousand on the day of Badr, or close to a thousand, while the companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) were three hundred and a dozen or so men. [Verse 14]
ويخزيهم، وَكَانَ مَعَ رَسُول اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَلَائِكَة وَجِبْرِيل، يَقُول، لَقَدْ كَانَ لكم فِي هَؤُلاءِ عِبْرَة ومتفكر؛ أَيّدهُم اللَّه، ونصرهم على عدوهم ﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لأُولِي الأَبْصَارِ﴾ وهم الْمُؤْمِنُونَ.
قَالَ قَتَادَة: وَكَانَ الْمُشْركُونَ آلفوا يَوْم بدر، أَو قاربوا الْألف، وَكَانَ أَصْحَاب رَسُول اللَّهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثمِائَة وَبضْعَة عشر رجلا. [آيَة ١٤]
