"At that place, Zachariah called upon his Lord. He said: 'My Lord, grant me from Yourself an offspring'"—that is: from Your presence—"'a pure offspring'"—meaning: pious. Al-Kalbi said: "Zachariah's wife was barren and had reached an advanced age, and Zachariah was an old man, so Allah answered his prayer."
