“A party of the People of the Scripture wish” — meaning: those among them who do not believe — “they could mislead you. But they mislead not except themselves” by what they desire of that, “and they perceive [it] not.”
﴿وَدَّتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ﴾ يَعْنِي: من لم يُؤمن مِنْهُم ﴿لَوْ يُضِلُّونَكُمْ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ إِلا أنفسهم﴾ بِمَا يودون من ذَلِك ﴿وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ﴾
