“O People of the Scripture, why do you confuse” — meaning: why do you mix the truth with falsehood?! Al-Hasan said: Meaning what they distorted from the Torah and the Gospel with the falsehood they accepted from Satan. “And conceal the truth while you know [it]” — that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and that his religion is the truth. [Verses 72-74]
﴿يَا أهل الْكتاب لم تلبسُونَ﴾ أَي: لم تخلطون الْحق بِالْبَاطِلِ؟! قَالَ الْحسن: يَعْنِي: مَا حرفوا من التَّوْرَاة وَالْإِنْجِيل بِالْبَاطِلِ الَّذِي قبلوه عَن الشَّيْطَان. ﴿وَتَكْتُمُونَ الْحَقَّ وَأَنْتُم تعلمُونَ﴾ أَن مُحَمَّدًا رَسُول الله، وَأَن دينه حق. [آيَة ٧٢ - ٧٤]
