("And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together.") Al-Hasan and others said: The rope of Allah is the Qur'an. Muhammad said: The root of the word "rope" (habl) in the language refers to a covenant (عهد).
Al-A'sha said:
(And when I cross it, the ropes of a tribe ... I grasp from the other, towards it, its ropes.)
﴿واعتصموا بِحَبل الله جَمِيعًا﴾ قَالَ الْحسن وَغَيره: حَبل الله: الْقُرْآن. قَالَ مُحَمَّد: وأصل الْحَبل فِي اللُّغَة: الْعَهْد.
قَالَ (الْأَعْشَى):
(وَإِذا أجوزها حبال قَبيلَة … أخذت من الْأُخْرَى إِلَيْهَا حبالها﴾
