of their names." Adam, peace be upon him, said: "This is so-and-so, and this is so-and-so." Qatadah said: Thus, he named every kind by its name. When Adam had informed them of their names, Allah said to the angels: "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you were concealing?" Al-Hasan and Qatadah said: When Allah, may He be exalted, said: "Indeed, I am going to set a vicegerent on the earth," they said among themselves: "Allah will not create a creature more noble to Him than us, [nor more knowledgeable]," and this is what they were concealing. [Ayah 34-35]
بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ﴾ فَقَالَ آدم عليه السلام: هَذَا كَذَا، وَهَذَا كَذَا. قَالَ قَتَادَة: فَسمى كُلَّ نوع باسمه. فَلَمَّا أنبأهم آدم بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ قَالَ اللَّه للْمَلَائكَة: ﴿أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَأَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ﴾ قَالَ الحَسَن وَقَتَادَة: لما قَالَ اللَّه ﷿: ﴿إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الأَرْض خَليفَة﴾ قَالُوا فِيمَا بَينهم: مَا اللَّه بخالق خلقا هُوَ أكْرم عَلَيْهِ منا [وَلا أعلم] وَهُوَ الَّذِي كتموا. [آيَة ٣٤ - ٣٥]
