Translation · EN

"And when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate before Adam.'" Qatadah said: Allah honored Adam by commanding His angels to prostrate to him. "So they prostrated, except for Iblis..." up to the end of the ayah. Some said: Allah created His creation as miserable or happy; Iblis was among those whom He created as miserable. So when he was commanded to prostrate, "he refused and was arrogant and was of the disbelievers." He, the Exalted, is informing that he was among those whom He had created as miserable.

﴿وَإِذا قُلْنَا للْمَلَائكَة اسجدوا لآدَم﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: أكْرم اللَّه آدم؛ بِأَن أَسجد لَهُ مَلَائكَته ﴿فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيس … .﴾ الْآيَة، قَالَ بَعضهم: خلق اللَّه الْخلق شقيا وسعيدا؛ فَكَانَ إِبْلِيس مِمَّن خلقه شقيا؛ فَلَمَّا أُمِرَ بِالسُّجُود ﴿أَبَى وَاسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافرين﴾ يخبر ﷿ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِمَّن خلقه شقياً.
