Qatadah said: These were people from among the Muslims who had not witnessed the day of Badr, so they used to wish to see combat in order to fight; thus, the battle was brought to them on the day of Uhud. Others besides Qatadah said: And none of them remained steadfast except those whom Allah willed.
السيوف بأيدي الرِّجَال.
قَالَ قَتَادَة: أنَاس من الْمُسلمين لم يشْهدُوا يَوْم بدر، فَكَانُوا يتمنون أَن يرَوا قتالا؛ فيقاتلوا، فسيق إِلَيْهِم الْقِتَال يَوْم أحد. قَالَ غير قَتَادَة: فَلم يثبت مِنْهُم إِلَّا من شَاءَ الله.
