Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 1 · Page 618

Translation · EN

they should go out, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I shall certainly go out, even if no one from among you goes out with me!" So, seventy men went out with him until they reached Badr. Abu Sufyan did not come out, and there was no fighting; they traded in the market and then returned.

This is the meaning of His saying: "Those to whom the people said"—meaning Nu'aym al-Ashja'i—"The people have gathered against you, so fear them; but it increased them in faith, and they said: 'Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.'"
