"Our Lord, we have heard a caller calling to the faith"—and he is the Prophet, peace be upon him—"that you should believe in your Lord," the verse. Al-Hasan said: God commanded them to pray for the expiation of the sins and misdeeds that had passed, and for protection [from sin] in what remains.
﴿رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي للْإيمَان﴾ وَهُوَ النَّبِي عليه السلام ﴿أَن آمنُوا بربكم﴾ الْآيَة. قَالَ الْحسن: أَمرهم الله أَن يدعوا بتكفير مَا مضى من الذُّنُوب والسيئات، والعصمة فِيمَا بَقِي.
