"For men is a share of what the parents and the nearest kin leave behind," to the end of the verse. This was when Allah clarified the obligatory shares of inheritance. The verse of inheritance was revealed before this verse, even though it appears after it in the compilation. The people of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) used to give neither women nor minors anything of the inheritance; rather, they would only give it to those who worked, provided benefits, and defended. Thus, Allah ordained for them from that (from what
﴿لِلرِّجَالِ نَصيِبٌ مِمَّا تَرَكَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَالْأَقْرَبُونَ﴾ الْآيَة، هَذَا حِين بَين الله فَرَائض الْمَوَارِيث، نزلت آيَة الْمَوَارِيث قبل هَذِه الْآيَة، وَهِي بعْدهَا فِي التَّأْلِيف؛ وَكَانَ أهل الْجَاهِلِيَّة لَا يُعْطون النِّسَاء من الْمِيرَاث، وَلَا الصَّغِير شَيْئا، وَإِنَّمَا كَانُوا يُعْطون من يحترف وينفع وَيدْفَع، فَجعل الله لَهُم من ذَلِك (مِمَّا
