"And do not mix the truth with falsehood," Qatada said, meaning: Do not mix Islam with Judaism and Christianity.
Muhammad said: It is said, 'I obscured (labastu) the matter for them' [when I confuse it for them]. Thus, the meaning of the verse is: Do not obscure the affair of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with what you distort and conceal.
﴿وَلَا تلبسوا الْحق بِالْبَاطِلِ﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة: يَعْنِي: لَا تخلطوا الإِسْلام باليهودية والنصرانية.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: يُقَال لَبَسْت عَلَيْهِم الْأَمر [إِذا غَمَّيْته]؛ فَكَأَن معنى الْآيَة: لَا تلبسوا أَمر النَّبِي عليه السلام بِمَا تحرفون وتكتمون.
