"Have you not considered those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They believe in al-Jibt and al-Taghut." Mujahid said: "Al-Jibt is the soothsayer, and al-Taghut is Satan." "And they say about those who disbelieve: 'These are more rightly guided in the way than those who believe.'" Al-Kalbi said: "They are a group from the Jews who came to Mecca. The Quraysh and some people from Ghatafan asked them, and the Quraysh said: 'We maintain this mosque, we serve the House, and we provide water for the pilgrims; are we more exemplary, or Muhammad and his companions?' The Jews replied: 'Rather, you are more exemplary.' Then Uyaynah ibn Hisn and his companions who were with him said: 'As for the Quraysh, they have counted what is among them and have been preferred over Muhammad and his companions.' So they asked them: 'Are we more rightly guided, or Muhammad and his companions?' They replied: 'No, by Allah, rather you are more rightly guided.'"
