{And whoever kills a believer intentionally, then his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally}, [until the end of] the verse.
Yahya said: It reached me that Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "When Allah revealed the obligations (al-muwajibāt) for which He made the Fire mandatory for whoever commits them—including: {And whoever kills a believer intentionally} or [things] similar to that—we used to refrain from bearing witness [that such a person is definitely in the Fire], until this verse was revealed: {Indeed, Allah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills}; so we refrained from bearing witness [altogether]."
Yahya [narrated] from Asim ibn Hakim, (from Khalid ibn Abi Karima, from Abd Allah ibn Maysur, from Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah), from Ali, who said: "Do not consign the knowers (al-ʿārifīn) and the narrators (al-muḥaddithīn) to Paradise nor to the Fire, until it is Allah Himself who judges regarding them on the Day of Resurrection." [Verse 94]
