Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 1 · Page 787

Translation · EN

He said: 'I am as you see,' and he was blind. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Call Zayd for me, and let him bring the tablet or the shoulder blade.' Then Allah revealed: {other than the disabled}.

Muhammad said: The reading is {ghayra} (other than) with a fatha (vowel), in the sense of an exception. {Allah has favored the mujahideen who strive with their wealth and their lives over the ones who remain [at home] by a degree, and to each Allah has promised the best}—meaning: Paradise. This was revealed after Jihad had become voluntary.

He said: {And Allah has favored the mujahideen over the ones who remain [at home] with a great reward, [High] degrees from Him and forgiveness and mercy}, to the end of the verse.
