Translation · EN

"Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you," through revelation. "And do not be for the deceitful an advocate." The interpretation of al-Hasan: A man from the Ansar stole a coat of mail, and he was accused of it until the rumor spread that he had stolen the coat of mail. He then went and entrusted it to a Jewish man, then returned to his people and said: "Do you not see those who accused me regarding the coat of mail? By Allah, I continued to search and investigate until I found it with so-and-so, the Jew." They went to the Jew and found the coat of mail with him. He said: "By Allah, I did not steal it; rather, he entrusted it to me." Then the Ansari said to his people: "Go to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and tell him to come out and exonerate me, so that the rumor against me may cease." His people came to the Messenger of Allah and said: "O Messenger of Allah, come out and exonerate so-and-so, so that the rumor may cease against him." The Messenger of Allah intended to do so, but Allah revealed: "Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you, and do not..."
